Cuts Hurt Communities | Public Meeting

October 22, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Public meeting, Cuts Hurt Communities

A community hui bringing together healthcare workers, teachers, firefighters, and public service workers on the eve of coordinated industrial action for many public sector workers. The event will feature frontline testimonies about underfunding, understaffing, and their impact on communities, followed by discussion about how funding core public services is not just possible but essential for our communities.

Union members from across the public sector are taking strike action on the 23rd of October, calling on the Government to get its priorities straight, and back the essential workers who protect our health, our homes, and our kids’ futures.  This fight will be won by union members and the community together.

In Te Tai Tokerau, the night prior to the strike, a public meeting is being held called “Cuts Hurt Communities”.  This will include speakers from ASMS (Senior Doctors), NZNO (Nurses and Healthcare Assistants), PSA (Health Technicians), PPTA (Teachers), and the NZFU (Firefighters); along with an “expert” economist, Edward Miller who will talk about not only why we must fund these essential services, but also how this can be done. There will be time for questions with speakers, and light kai provided at the end.
