Bill Hickman and the Deadly Sins | Beer and Loathing
February 14 @ 7:30 pm

Make this Valentines one to remember, whether you’re flying solo or with the one you love you won’t want to miss Wellington’s dark prince of Folk.
Bill Hickman is an intense, lyrical singer/songwriter from Wellington. A long serving stalwart of New Zealand stages, Bill has played in bands (The Shot Band, Billy Bones, Parcel of Rogues and King Lazy) and as a soloist all over the country and further abroad. A self-described ‘folkie with a chip on his shoulder’, Bill’s songs run the gamut from murder and outlaws to absent friends, love and gratitude. With a strong, gravel dragged voice and country inflected acoustic guitar; fans of Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash and Townes van Zandt will find touchstones in his songwriting and selected covers. On stage, Bill’s primary approach is ‘gutsy’. But the stomp and grit are interspersed with valleys of stark, weary emotion, underpinned by a propulsive, finger style guitar.
Bill songs trace around the aches and scars before giving it all a good, solid kick in the guts
Bill will be backed by the Deadly Sins a lean, mean trio consisting of Dusty Burnell (T-Bone), Adam Crawford (Shark vs Lion, Winsome lost) and Tom Joass.
Northland locals, Dusty Lands will be opening the evening featuring the delicious harmonies of Mother and Daughter Val and Leah Land, songwriter Gary Smyth and multi instrumentalist Dusty Burnell.
Rounding out the evening Nimble things will be taking the stage to get you dancing late into the night.
