SUMMARY:The Whangarei Heads Arts Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Whangarei Heads Arts Trail is a two-day event each Easter\, showcasing local artists and their works in private studios and community venues between Onerahi & Ocean Beach.  \nIt’s a rare opportunity to see artists at work in their natural habitat. Some studio doors open only once a year\, especially for this event. \nUse the trail guide to explore the Trail at your own pace. During the event\, studios will be marked by the Whangārei Heads Arts Trail roadside flags. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLook for the Studio Flags! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Along the trail there will also be a range of places to stop to grab a coffee or bite to eat. \nThe trail is made possible by the committee running the Whangarei Heads Arts Trail Society\, who facilitate the event each Easter\, as well as curating occasional exhibitions at local galleries such as Reyburn House\, and other events like pop-up shops. \n“Our aim is to bring local artists and their works into the public domain to raise the profile of Whangarei Heads as a centre of Artistic Excellence and an Arts Tourism destination. Each year we invite guest artists to join us\, who bring something new and exciting to the trail.” \nAs you take the scenic ride along Whangarei Heads Road\, discover what wonders each studio reveals through the use of a range of mediums such as clay\, stone\, paint – water colour\, acrylic\, oil – photography\, textiles\, jewellery\, precious metals\, wood\, glass and more.

SUMMARY:Quarry Ceramics Awards 2026
DESCRIPTION:Quarry Ceramics Awards 2026 \n\nAwards & Opening night: Friday 10th April 2026\, 5pm\, Yvonne Rust Gallery\nExhibition open: 10th April – 2nd May 2026Open Hours – Mon – Sat 9.30am – 4.30pm\n\nA Quick History of the Quarry Ceramics Awards\nCeramics awards have been part of Northland’s art scene for over 20 years. For the first 15 years\, the event ran as the Northland Potters Award\, founded by Susie Leigh Rogers in partnership with New Zealand Potters to celebrate local ceramic artists. It was a $1000 acquisitive award sponsored by the Whangārei District Council\, whose collection can still be viewed at Forum North and Botanica Gardens.\nIn 2018\, the Quarry Arts Centre took over the awards\, expanding them into a national event called the Open Ceramics Award\, with the same top prize. In 2022\, it became the Quarry Ceramics Awards\, adding more categories and increasing the prize pool.\n\nPoster – 2024 QCA Premier Award winner Rom Marinkovich (instagram) @fruitfire_ceramics\n\nIf you’re working on a submission to the QCA\, feel free to tag us on Facebook or @quarryarts on Instagram.\n\n\n\n\nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:Paul Ego 'Stick' - Solo Comedy Show | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:Star of ‘7DAYS’ and the voice of ‘Stickman\, PAUL EGO\, is taking his solo standup show ‘STICK’ right around NZ in 2026. \nFri 10 Apr 2026\, 7:30pm–9:00pm @ ONEONESIX \nBe prepared for maximum laughs as Paul talks stickability\, sticky situations and\, of course\, stick-men. \nIt’s taken 30 years of performing comedy for Paul to get off his butt and do a solo NZ tour\, so this is both very exciting and long overdue! \nAs well as his many years as Team Captain on the TV show ‘7DAYS’\, Paul has also been part of award winning Breakfast Radio shows for both MoreFM and The Rock. \nHowever\, his crowning achievement now seems to be voicing ‘Stickman’ for PAK’nSAVE – something he happily admits is “the best job he’s ever had”. \n  \n\nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:You\, Me\, Everybody | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:Aotearoa’s bluegrass explorers\, You\, Me\, Everybody\, bring their new album\, Midnight to OneOneSix.\n\nRooted in tradition but unafraid to innovate\, the band blends virtuosic musicianship with gracious arrangements to create a progressive acoustic sound that reaches well beyond classic Americana. Their live shows offer plenty of toe-tapping energy\, yet it’s their creative fearlessness\, soaring dynamics and heartfelt storytelling that truly set them apart.\n\nThe band’s new album\, Midnight—recorded in Wellington with Nashville-based producer Rachel Baiman and mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Sean Sullivan—marks a bold evolution in their sound. Exploring the space between endings and beginnings\, the record pairs emotional depth with dynamic\, contemporary acoustic textures. With singles arriving throughout 2025\, You\, Me\, Everybody now support the release of the album with a national tour of Aotearoa.\n\n“This album moves & breathes in all the right places” – Jenny Mitchell\n\n“Bluegrass can be exhilarating. It can also be rigidly predictable. On ‘Midnight\,’ the Everybody’s go for the former with a lively mix of finely-tuned\, unpredictable arrangements” – Cameron Bennett\n\n\n\n\nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:Noa Records Presents: Leao\, Hun Lynch + Special Guests | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:We’re truly thrilled at this new opportunity to bring our musical whānau from Tāmaki Makaurau ki te nōta at ONEONESIX Whangarei\, presenting two of our most beloved live acts\, both established and emerging in the Aotearoa music scene. On April 24th\, with grace and love\, we’ll be exhibiting Pacific Psychedelic/Samoan Surf Rock band LEAO\, as well as the polymathic\, Moana cinematique Hun Lynch\, plus special guests that will be revealed in due time. \nApril 24th at ONEONESIX – doors open at 7:30PM – $20 + bf entry \nLeao \nFormed from a Pacific heart\, Leao is a Samoan musical project formed up of guitarist/vocalist David Feauai-Afaese\, bassist Navakatoa Tekela-Pule\, steel guitarist Levi Gemmell and drummer Rāhana Tito-Taylor. With a deep adoration for the Pacific musical reference and a desire to contribute contemporary musical ideas\, LEAO synthesises non-traditional tonalities with a fa’asamoa spirit\, creating what some have called ‘niu wave’ and ‘Pacific neo psychedelia” music. \nLeao has performed with musical icons from Aotearoa and beyond\, including Neil Finn and Tinariwen\, has received multiple NZ radio awards and performed a live-to-air with NTS\, and has had music appear in film on Taika Waititi’s ‘Next Goal Wins’ and Miki Magasiva’s ‘Tinā’. More immediately\, LEAO is due to perform with A24 artist Mark Williams Lewis on April 6th\, and are set to embark on a trip to the UK in May to perform at The Great Escape festival in Brighton. \nHun Lynch \nHun Lynch (Pakeha\, Fiji\, Samoa) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans music\, theatre\, film\, and writing. Hun’s sound is expansive and personal\, with tracks that fluctuate between moments of spiritual grandeur and existential fragility. \nShe has performed around Aotearoa\, opening for Serebii and WOMB at sold-out venues as well as playing Roundhead’s Infinity Sessions supporting LEAO and Neil Finn. Her music has aired on NTS and 95bFM and featured across theatre\, dance\, and screen. Her live performance attempts to touch the void of an untouchable feeling\, often meditating on the ephemeral muddiness of connecting to wairua in the wake of religion. \nApril 24th at ONEONESIX – doors open at 7:30PM – $20 entry

SUMMARY:SIKA Sound Journey | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:SIKA Sound Journey – ‘Between the Worlds’Something between an ancient ceremony and a movie soundtrack.\n\nSunday\, April 26\, 2026 at 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM\n\nPlease bring a yoga mat\, pillow and blanket. Be prepared to drop into a deep space.\nDoor sales will be available if there is space. Advanced booking is recommended.\n\nBetween the Worlds is an evening Sound Journey shaped by over thirty years of deep ceremonial and immersive sound practice. Blending primal rhythm\, atmospheric voice\, deep didgeridoo\, and field recordings\, the journey unfolds organically — shifting from dynamic\, embodied energy into vast\, cinematic stillness.\nThis is not passive listening. It is an experience to be entered.\nAs sound layers\, dissolve\, and reform\, participants are guided into a liminal space where time softens and inner landscapes awaken. The journey becomes a passage — one that listeners don’t just hear\, but inhabit.\nGuided by the myth of the Wandering Forest Spirit\, Between the Worlds invites a reconnection with self\, with nature\, and with something older than language. Ceremonial\, immersive\, and deeply evocative\, this is an evening to slow down\, listen deeply\, and cross into the unseen. It’s like a soundtrack that is crafted to go with your life.\n\nSika’s Sound Journeys are truly unique. They are sonic explorations that feature didgeridoos\, drums\, flutes\, voice and orchestral elements. A collection of foraged sounds from objects he has recorded in nature\, add even more textures. Many of his sounds are completely unrecognisable and abstract. Immersed in this cocoon of abstract sound\, we can find ourselves in the most surprising places in our mind. In this timeless realm\, beyond the normal limitations of rational reality\, anything is possible.\nAn epic adventure deep inside yourself.Journey to worlds within worlds on incredible sound waves.\n\nSika creates a safe space to relax deeply and connect with our inner guidance. This Sound Journey begins and ends with a short guided visualisation.\n\nThere will be two journeys with an interval. Most people choose to lie down\, so bring a yoga mat\, pillow and blanket and get really comfortable.A journal is also recommended.
