SUMMARY:Tāwhirimātea: The Thirteenth | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:A rehearsed reading of a new script by local writer Vincent Nathan. \nTue 25 Nov 2025\, 6:30pm–8:00pm\nWed 26 Nov 2025\, 6:30pm–8:00pm \n@ONEONESIX \nAcross time and tide\, Tāwhirimātea – the atua of storms – wrestles with the pain of separation\, rage\, and love. Through thirteen monologues\, the winds of Pūrakau echo into the present day. \nA modern voice steps between the cracks of legend\, speaking a human truth: a son torn apart by a father’s violence\, shame\, and silence. \nWhere Tāwhirimātea fights to hold onto his father\, the other fights to survive his. In the end\, both storms find calm not in vengeance\, but in understanding. \nTāwhirimātea: The Thirteenth navigates the space between Pūrakau and man\, where intergenerational trauma meets sacred whakapapa\, where the tearing of Rangi and Papa becomes the fracture in us all. \nOne atua. One Man.\nThirteen versions.\nA thousand truths carried on the wind. \nStarring Phoenix Ruka\, Tekerei Mihaka\, JJ Wellington\, Tema Kwan\, Stormy Kay\, Lutz Hamm and Stuart Devenie. \nThis kaupapa is supported by Whangārei District Council’s Creative Communities Scheme and ONEONESIX. \n  \nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:Prisoner Correspondence Network Holiday Card Drive | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:Since 2016\, the Prisoner Correspondence Network has coordinated the Holiday Card Drive. Our pen pals\, supporters and members of the public write holiday cards to incarcerated folks\, bringing them some holiday cheer during a dark and lonely time in prison. This is an important initiative which brings hope and connection to our incarcerated whānau\, as well as connection and kōrero among members of the community. \nThis year we’re aiming to send 1\,500 cards to 300 incarcerated people. \nThis is being held between 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.\, on Sunday 23 November 2025 at One One Six\, 116A Bank Street\, Whangārei 0110. \n  \n  \n  \n\nThank you notes\nEvery year we receive thank you messages from the recipients of our holiday cards\, which clearly show how much of an impact the Holiday Card Drive has on incarcerated people who otherwise may not hear from anyone over Christmas. Here are some of the messages we received after 2024’s Holiday Card Drive: \nFrom Piripi: \nI am writing this note to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the whole team with thanks for the pro-social people I had time getting to know over my sentence period here in prison. I also want to say a warm big heart Merry Xmas to everyone for their Xmas cards and warm wishes. I don’t have many people in my life and any that will have shown the time to even do a Xmas card or something like that. So thank you all very much\, it did mean the world to get these cards with what was said in all of them and from me to all of you I hope you all stay safe and have a Merry Xmas with your families. \nFrom Seetha: \nI am delighted to receive an envelope full of cards. My special appreciation for your efforts to make it possible with the help of the people in the community. He rawe tērā! My special thanks to Morgan for sending a portrait of a bird in colour. I pasted it on my wall. Everytime I look at the bird\, makes me happy  Lots of aroha to Mikayla who sent heart touching greetings with her beautiful hand writing. This is the 1st greeting card in my last 4 years of prison time. So\, I saved it as a valuable present. I appreciate her time and big heart to make an effort to write a card to an unknown person. He mīharo tana mahi! \nFrom Douglas: \nI would like to thank all the people that write a Xmas card they meant a lot. Getting a card from people out there it makes you feel like you are not forgotten and are someone so thank you to everyone that made a card online or at the making card bees round NZ. You all make a difference in people’s lives. Thank you. \nFrom Allan: \nI just want to express how grateful I am for the service and the mahi that yous provide for people like myself who are locked away. A letter and card from yous is such a simple little gesture but the impact is huge & fulfilling\, it’s really nice to know that there are people out there who put aside a little amount of time to show Aroha\, to give Aroha\, by way of a few words on a card. Xmas can be challenging & it was this year for me. The loneliness birds were making their nest inside of me\, but when I received some cards with my name on it\, I really felt the Aroha. Thankyous all. \nFrom Troi: \nP.C.N\, I’m just writing to say thanx for the Christmas cards\, it was a nice surprise & thoughtful\, it picked me right up\, im very thankful. I felt valued. Choice one P.C.N. Ka pai tō mahi. \n\n  \nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:Giant Little Stories | ONEONESIX
DESCRIPTION:A series of small-but-mighty performance adventures hosted by local artists. \nStories spring to life in surprising ways through imaginative performance\, live sound\, and a few curious twists. Some familiar tales\, others are freshly invented on the spot. \nFamilies are invited to listen\, invent\, watch\, and play in creative spaces where children can explore\, make\, and concoct stories of their own. \nExpect spoken word\, music\, soundscapes\, puppets\, and peculiar spaces. Whales and stink beetles\, ogres and friendly bears\, teapots that talk\, shoelaces that sing\, family memories\, nature adventures\, and imagined lands. \nEvery session is a doorway into a fantastical\, sideways world. A joyful celebration of imagination\, connection\, and play. \nFor ages 4 to 11 (and their parents\, grandparents\, and carers). \nDay One (Wed 1 Oct) – Sleeping Giants & Tiny Cities \nA world of giants\, kings\, towers\, and trees. Go on a story quest through a forgotten city\, hear the tiny secrets\, meet an invisible boy and lonely busker. Tiny treasures and towering wonders\, meet curious characters\, and help us build a city of stories. \nEvery day opens a new doorway—come back tomorrow for another adventure. \nDay Two (Thu 2 Oct) – Rivers & Taniwha \nFollow the winding path of rivers and meet the taniwha who guard them. Expect moonlit paddock wanderings\, muddy escapades\, cows\, rafts\, weather\, and wild colour. Small tales of the natural world spring to life through story\, sound\, and imagination. \nEvery day brings a fresh tale—join us again to see where the stories flow next. \nDay Three (Fri 3 Oct) – Bugs\, Creatures & Odd Socks \nFrom stink beetles to secret house-dwellers\, today is all about the little (and stinky!) things. Join bugs\, creatures\, and even Winnie the Pooh as they creep\, crawl\, and tumble into stories. Expect singing puppets\, peculiar shoes\, bad hair days\, and maybe a few surprises from your own imagination. \nEvery day is different—don’t miss what tomorrow’s stories might hatch. \nDay Four (Sun 9 Nov) – Oceans & Other Depths \nPLEASE NOTE THIS SESSION HAS BEEN POSTPONED FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF 5 OCTOBER \nA deep dive into watery worlds of whales\, mermaids\, boats and voyages into the unknown. Explore swamps\, crabs\, fish\, and creatures of every size. Stories ripple and crash like waves\, carrying you into the mysteries of the deep. Come and share some of your own. \nThis event is supported by Whangārei District Creative Communities and ONEONESIX \n  \nStay tuned to more of  Beagle’s favourite local events here
