SUMMARY:NZTrio | Hypnotique
DESCRIPTION:Described as a “national treasure” and “New Zealand’s most indispensable ensemble”\, NZTrio He Taonga Wairere is renowned for its eclectic repertoire\, outstanding talent and warm kiwi stage presence. Bringing together three incredibly accomplished artists\, every NZTrio performance powerfully reaffirms the importance and cathartic nature of a live musical experience in today’s digital world. \nHypnotique presents a diverse array of works that challenges expectations of traditional chamber music. A whirlwind of motion typifies NZ composer Lyell Cresswell’s virtuosic Moto Perpetuo\, ahead of the percussive and electronic influences in Le Boeuf’s jazz-adjacent Obliquely Wrecked. Fauré’s Piano Trio in D minor exhibits lyrical elegance\, with transportative\, lush harmonic textures\, and Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin pays homage to Haydn\, blending classical and contemporary styles in Calliope Dreaming. Then finally\, the full Romantic immersion of Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht is structured around the five stanzas of a poem; deeply transcendent and utterly beautiful. \nThe Programme \nLyell Cresswell (NZ) | Moto perpetuo\nPascal Le Boeuf | Obliquely Wrecked\nGabriel Fauré | Piano Trio in D minor\, Op. 120\nElena Kats-Chernin | Calliope Dreaming\nArnold Schönberg | Verklärte Nacht arr. for piano trio \nCompanion tickets available \n  \nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

DESCRIPTION:Public meeting\, Cuts Hurt Communities \nA community hui bringing together healthcare workers\, teachers\, firefighters\, and public service workers on the eve of coordinated industrial action for many public sector workers. The event will feature frontline testimonies about underfunding\, understaffing\, and their impact on communities\, followed by discussion about how funding core public services is not just possible but essential for our communities.\nUnion members from across the public sector are taking strike action on the 23rd of October\, calling on the Government to get its priorities straight\, and back the essential workers who protect our health\, our homes\, and our kids’ futures.  This fight will be won by union members and the community together.  \nIn Te Tai Tokerau\, the night prior to the strike\, a public meeting is being held called “Cuts Hurt Communities”.  This will include speakers from ASMS (Senior Doctors)\, NZNO (Nurses and Healthcare Assistants)\, PSA (Health Technicians)\, PPTA (Teachers)\, and the NZFU (Firefighters); along with an “expert” economist\, Edward Miller who will talk about not only why we must fund these essential services\, but also how this can be done. There will be time for questions with speakers\, and light kai provided at the end. \nWhere: Level 2 Lounge\, Semenoff Stadium\, 51 Okara Drive\, Whangārei \nWhen: 22 October\, 6-7.30pm \nFacebook event: https://www.facebook.com/share/1A8otpgpJj/
