DESCRIPTION:The Worm\, theatre at ONEONESIX \nWritten by Carl and Peter Bland. \nWhen a mischievous bird pokes its beak through the ceiling and swoops away with his mum\, a determined little worm sets off on the adventure of a lifetime! \nThrough twisty tunnels\, muddy passages\, and underground burrows\, he meets a cast of unforgettable characters – a fast-talking Snail\, a sharp-witted Spider\, and the self-appointed ruler of the underworld\, the Blind Rat. SUMMARY:Speed is Emotional
DESCRIPTION:Speed is Emotional theatre at ONEONESIX \nADHD – it’s so hot right now! Pōneke’s creative powerhouse Jo Randerson (ONZM) unpacks their diagnosis\, neurodivergent parenting\, sad songs\, men taking their time\, and so much more in this highly lauded “funny as hell” theatre extravaganza. This incredible mahi is so much more than a performance – it’s a revelation. \nJo Randerson has a brain that never stops and a fountain of restless energy fuelling their fiercely funny artistic voice. Who knew?! that this fountain was fed by something they had diagnosed in their 40s alongside their son: ADHD. \nJo has always lived life at high voltage. A true arts polymath\, they have accumulated achievements\, accolades\, and acclaim as a PerformerComedianWriterActivistDirectorCuratorTheatremakerFilmmakerWitchClown\, recently receiving the 2023 Topp Prize for comedy. \nIn Speed is Emotional Jo bares their soul\, sharing the exhilaration\, exhaustion\, joy\, and absurdity of living and parenting with neurodivergence. Jo weaves their punk poetic magic into a beautiful comedy about transcending labels and living with a voltage so high it’s going to blow the mains. \nIf anyone in your life likes to do things at 4x speed\, do not miss this transformative comedy theatre event. \nAdditional access information: \nBarbarian are committed to making performances as inclusive and accessible to our whole community as possible. EVERY performance of Speed is Emotional is relaxed so those who need to move around or take a break are able. \nOn Wednesday February 18 we have a unique bilingual integrated performance which weaves English and NZSL\, so both Deaf and hearing audiences can access and enjoy the show together. These shows feature our Deaf performer Pollyanna Ferguson alongside Jo.

SUMMARY:Bill Hickman and the Deadly Sins | Beer and Loathing
DESCRIPTION:Make this Valentines one to remember\, whether you’re flying solo or with the one you love you won’t want to miss Wellington’s dark prince of Folk.\n\nBill Hickman is an intense\, lyrical singer/songwriter from Wellington. A long serving stalwart of New Zealand stages\, Bill has played in bands (The Shot Band\, Billy Bones\, Parcel of Rogues and King Lazy) and as a soloist all over the country and further abroad. A self-described ‘folkie with a chip on his shoulder’\, Bill’s songs run the gamut from murder and outlaws to absent friends\, love and gratitude. With a strong\, gravel dragged voice and country inflected acoustic guitar; fans of Warren Zevon\, Johnny Cash and Townes van Zandt will find touchstones in his songwriting and selected covers. On stage\, Bill’s primary approach is ‘gutsy’. But the stomp and grit are interspersed with valleys of stark\, weary emotion\, underpinned by a propulsive\, finger style guitar.\n\nBill songs trace around the aches and scars before giving it all a good\, solid kick in the guts\n\nBill will be backed by the Deadly Sins a lean\, mean trio consisting of Dusty Burnell (T-Bone)\, Adam Crawford (Shark vs Lion\, Winsome lost) and Tom Joass.\n\n\nNorthland locals\, Dusty Lands will be opening the evening featuring the delicious harmonies of Mother and Daughter Val and Leah Land\, songwriter Gary Smyth and multi instrumentalist Dusty Burnell. \nRounding out the evening Nimble things will be taking the stage to get you dancing late into the night. \n\n\n\n\n\nStay tuned to more of Beagles favourite local events here

SUMMARY:Artist Talk | Nikau Hindin | Wairau Māori Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Nikau Hindin presents her first solo exhibition in Te Tai Tokerau with the Wairau Māori Art Gallery in Whangārei. ‘Tai Timu\, Tai Pari’ opens on Saturday 6 December. \n\nNikau will deliver an Artist Talk. All are warmly invited to attend.\nSaturday 6 December\, 11:30am\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition Opening night: Friday 5 December 2025\, 6pm\nExhibition runs: December 6 — March 29\nWairau Māori Art Gallery\n2 Quayside\, Town Basin\n\n\n\n\nNikau Hindin (Ngāpuhi\, Te Rarawa) is a cloth maker\, kiriaute\, who has been deeply engaged in the renewal of Māori aute (bark cloth). Her practice\, grounded by wānanga\, is devoted to sharing our cosmologies within and beyond aute. \nTai Timu Tai Pari presents over a decade of practice\, research and refinement in the intensive and iterative process of aute making. It follows not only the phases of transformation of the fibre\, weu\, but of the kiriaute themselves\, and the processes that emerge out of a deep commitment to past and future generations. \nNikau’s work has been exhibited widely\, recently included in Fondation Cartier’s collection presentation\, ‘Exposition Générale’ at their new gallery Fondation Cartier Pour l’art contemporain\, Paris. ‘Djamu Aute’\, a 12 month intensive aute wānanga at Frank Baxter Youth Justice Centre\, was co-facilitated by Wesley Shaw\, Atarangi Anderson and Te Kuru o te Marama Dewes and the Gallery of New South Wales Indigenous public programs team. The toi aute made by Nikau and the youth are currently part of ‘High Colour’ at the Gallery of New South Wales\, Sydney. Between 2023-2024 Hindin lead two major projects for ‘Ten Thousand Suns’ 24th Biennale of Sydney\, including Badu Gili: Celestial\, featuring Hindin’s toi aute animated and projected onto the Sydney Opera House with soundscape by Te Kahureremoa Tiopira Taumata and Te Kuru o te Marama Dewes. The 35th Bienal De São Paulo commissioned Ngā Whetū Maiangi\, an ensemble of 13 star maps and the aute quilt presented here\, for ‘Choreographies Of The Impossible’\, 2023. Commissioned by Haus der Kulturen der Welt\, Berlin\, Nikau made 100 manu aute for their inaugural exhibition O Quilombismo\, Of Resisting and Insisting. Of Flight as Fight. Of Other Democratic Egalitarian Political Philosophies. Other noteworthy presentations include the Kathmandu Triennale (2022)\, Aichi Triennale (2022) and works included in major institutions; Winnipeg Art Gallery–Qaumajuq\, Winnipeg\, Mackenzie Art Gallery\, Regina\, and Para Site\, Hong Kong. In Aotearoa\, Nikau has presented solo exhibitions at The Dowse Art Museum\, Wellington\, Corban Estate Arts Centre\, Auckland and here at the Wairau Māori Art Gallery\, Whangarei. \n\n\n  \nStay tuned to more of  Beagle’s favourite local events here
